MANAGING - Essay ExampleIn his works, Foucalt has focused on five major topics, including the following discourse, bureau/knowledge, de-centered gentleman subject, body, and micro-politics (Izac, 2014). This paper focuses on the topic of causation and knowledge, and analyses how Foucault s view on origin and discipline explains the managerial work and management power/roles.Among a considerable range of subjects and topics covered in the Foucaults work, there are three central concerns expressed by the author power, knowledge, and subjectivity (Townley, 1993). Power is viewed by Foucault as a commodity, which is embodied either in a person, structure, or institution and is held or possessed for achieving individual and/or organizational purposes (Townley, 1993). As Foucault (198194) explained, power is non something that is acquired, seized, or shared, something one holds on to or allows to slip awayrather power is relational it becomes apparent when it is exercised (Townley, 1 993 520). This definition gives more insight on how Foucault views power. Moreover, Foucault views power and knowledge as two inseparable and interrelated elements (Izac, 2014). He has coined a term power-knowledge as power and knowledge directly imply one another, whereas power produces knowledge, and knowledge produces power. In Foucaults point of view, knowledge is power as knowledge provides someone with the power and capability to control, manage and change the socio-political order (Izac, 2014 Foucault, 1980). Furthermore, Foucault explains how organisations and institutions, possessing power impose discipline by defining, creating, normalizing and enforcing knowledge and justness in human society (Izac, 2014). Thus, power attained and supported through knowledge produces our reality, dictates our behaviour, and creates our beliefs about the truth (Foucault 1991, cited in Izac, 2014). In this case, knowledge presupposes and constitute power relations at the

Psychology of language learning Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words

Psychology of language learning - Assignment ExampleLanguage Acqui presention A great deal of a childs acquisition of linguistic structure occurs during the first five years of life. This is the period when he is most nimble in discerning a redress of underlying organizational principles of language from the expression that surrounds him. It is amazing how at a very young age, he is able-bodied of abstracting meaning from direct experience with other language users depending on his own context. Beaty (2009) explains that even at an infant stage, the babys early nonverbal intercourse helps in preparing her for the spoken and written language to follow and at 6 months, she has set about a language specialist, based on the sounds she hears most frequently. At 20 months, she may possess a sizable vocabulary if she hears adults around her talk to one another and to her all the time. Of course good hearing and sensitive audience are paramount to language development. According to Lig htbrown & Spada (1999), like the first language, learners age is one of the characteristics which determine the way in which an individual approaches randomness language learning (p. 68). Lindfors (1987) notes that the childs language environment includes a set of specific sentences, however, it is not this set of sentences that he acquires, but deduces from these an underlying set of organizational principles and sound-meaning relationships. To illustrate, children as young as two do not talk by simply using the specific sentences they hear, but rather, they construct sentences agree to their own early version of organized principles underlying the specific sentences they have heard. Perhaps due also to limited language and motor skills, the childs early linguistic system is different from the adults and results in telegraphic and grammatically erratic sentences like He no want to sit me., I not like it, and He gived it to me. Over time, his language system will be revised in man y different situations, and his sentences will become more adult-like. For his own purpose, he builds his own rule-governed constructions as he has deduced from his environment and from interactions with others (Lindfors, 1987). Language has four elements, and these elements have related skills necessary to develop a proficiency in language. According to Larsen-Freeman (1986), the natural order that children follow when learning their native language in terms of skill acquisition is listening, speaking, reading and writing. crucial to the development of teaching approaches is an understanding of such processes involved in language use. Socio-cultural Theory of Language Learning According to Lev Vygotsky (1962), social interaction stimulated by speech is essential for language development. He also mentions that a supportive interactive environment can help the child to reach a higher(prenominal) level of knowledge and performance compared to what might be reached through his or her ability to improve independently (Lightbown and Spada, 2006). Sex In Our Society Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Sex In Our Society - Essay Example113).I agree with Joyce Garity that some of the adverts in teen fashion magazines are to blame for deteriorating morals in the society. The adverts are too suggestive that they end up brain washing the innocent children. An publicizing of Liz Claiborne fragrances showing a couple sprawled on their bed is a perfect example. After seeing this, the teenagers start fantasizing and would be tempted to think that their life is not off if they are not practising the same. They end up trying this, and before they know it, the worst has happened and the consequences are with them.In addition, it is absurd to feature a naked girl in a teen magazine in the name of advertising cologne. Though the company sales will go up, it is not worth the maltreat it is causing the society. Above buying the cologne, the teenagers may be tempted to pose naked like the girl in the advert. In their minds, they are out to be noteworthy among their peers. However, they may e nd up engaging in sexual activities that would ruin their young lives (Soble, 2008, P. 96).As Joyce Garity states, any teenager would be excited to see a young couple display affection publicly. In an advert, a young girl is laying on a luxurious bed in a dimly light room with her lover making her nails. If a suggestive picture like this has to appear in a magazine, it should not be a teenage magazine. Teenagers minds are easily washed away by anything they lay their eyes on. Within no time, they will go out experimenting on things that may ruin their lives.Teenagers world is full of sexual spontaneity and playfulness. They will take less or no time thinking about a prudent life. Instead, they admire musicians, actors, rock stars and other celebrities whose lives are full of sexual drama. These are their role models, and their talk is about which musician has slept with many women. The young adults rush to the

Int Trade Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words

Int Trade - Essay ExampleAs a result, these countries choose to mete out domestically or locally. To note, international shargon brings in more income to a country than local trade (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, 2009). When a country engages in international trade, it could lose the greatest number of customers as rise as investors. A substantial amount of income could be expected. In such case, it is proper to review the current international trade policy of the world towards an tint opportunity for countries to grow and develop. The turndom to trade or give up trade shall be thoroughly discussed and analyzed. Free Trade Free trade is defined as an economic system wherein labor, goods and capital flow freely between countries without barriers that could hamper the trade process (Smith, n.d.). This means that a country could trade whatever goods and serve to another(prenominal) nations. There is equal opportunity to trade for the participating coun tries. There is no barrier such as tariffs, import quotas and taxes (Smith, n.d.). In other words, in that respect is no intervention from the government (Anon. Whats, n.d.). The area in trade is open to everyone who is interested. There is no restriction of some sort. This economic policy allows foreign individuals and companies to trade smoothly and efficiently as the domestic producers (Smith, n.d.). Stated otherwise, in this system, both the foreign and domestic producers have the same autonomy with regard to trade. They both have the same rights in trading. For nations to apply this system, they make free trade agreements (FTAs). Countries actually adopt this economic policy for economic and political reasons. According to Arnold Miller (2004), at that place is easy access to one anothers markets if free trade agreement is formed. This is logical since in FTAs, members are prioritized. This is to say that a free trade agreement creates a reciprocal obligation between the memb ers (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, 2005). A member is obliged to observe the free trade rules all throughout the liveness of the agreement. If a member grants free trade rights to another member, the other member is also obligated to accord the same right. In another aspect, there are countries which decide to form an FTA to encourage investment liberalization and trade (Miller, 2004). Developed and developing countries usually create FTAs under this reason. Politically, FTAs are used to reaffirm and uphold relations between countries (Miller, 2004). For instance, the United States of America created an FTA with Israel in 1985 as a sign of economic cooperation and strong relation (Hassanien, 2010 Bard, n.d.). Basically, to make trade completely free would create an economic system wherein all types of government protection and intervention would be absent and borders would be open to unlimited amounts of imported goods (Anon. Whats, n.d.). It is contended that the result of such trade policy would be very beneficial to developed and industrialized countries. It would be easy for such countries to introduce and market their products to the domestic producers. On the other side, as to the developing countries, allowing a trade which is completely free would cost them inequality and poverty (Anon. Whats, n.d.). Take for instance, countries such as Nepal, Haiti, Zambia, Peru and Mali have adopted free trade in their

This change in the way mountain think has brought about numerous challenges which leading have to face. object lesson behaviour was initially judged on the basis of religious teachings. Irrespective of which religion an individual belonged to, the human life was focused on the religious teachings. However with the public life of time, the human focus has shifted from religion. With secular societies and nations being on the rise, religion is not viewed as the fundamental basis of how one should act. Consequently, the error theory and the meta-ethics have essential over time. In the present times, age old principles are not used as the basis of governing a situation. Be it an issue in economy or a problem faced in the business, people consider the present situation and weigh their pros and cons before terming an action as ea ch ethical or unethical. It is believed that times have changed so immensely, that the age old principles do not apply any longer to the issues faced by the people today (Mackie, 110). In a world, where people often do not abide by the rules of religion, it is very important for national leaders to be ethical. besides it is very important for business leaders and the executive managers to be ethical. Businesses are run on the basis of trust and ethics. An increasing number of business schools now teach philosophy and ethics as a part of their curriculum so as to avoid their graduates from following prey to scandals and breach of ethics in the real world (Fulmer, 308). The ethics of leadership have been analyzed time and again using the disciplines of science and humanities. While scientific scholars aim at providing people with descriptions and explanations, the humanities scholars deliver an understanding of the topic (Ciulla, 304). Every leader has to face his personal set of eth ical challenges. These challenges may differ from one leader to another. In the case of national leaders, there are situations where their moral luck is to be blamed. Certain leaders are not unethical, but the situations that they have to face readiness lead them to make certain decisions which may look immoral. The decisions which leaders have to make on a daily basis are very beautiful and risky. At times they do not have complete information or may lack the time to gather the required information. When it comes to national decisions, leaders may often have to opt for a strategy which will cause the least amount of damage, but will cause damage nonetheless. Kants argument holds true in these situations. The argument was that since humans cannot guarantee the results of their actions, the judgments should be based on the right principles which a certain individual follows and not on the outcome (Ciulla, 309). The business scenario today is changing almost too rapidly. In such sit uations leaders have to be constantly on their toes, in aver to keep themselves updated and be a step ahead of their competitors. Every business leader has numerous stakeholders to think about when making a decision. Every iodin decision made by the CEO of a company affects either the employees, vendors, consumers and shareholders or in certain cases all of them. Numerous companies today operate globally. They are not owned by a single person or family, but are publically owned companies. Multinationals like Unilever and Johnson & Johnson are

The four stages of team building are forming, storming, norming and performing. When a team is initially formed there is a cordial atmosphere on the surface however in mos t cases the older team members would be cautious and check whether their positions are threatened by the new entrants. The newcomers are also excited as well as tensed and then it is necessary to understand team building so as to maintain the balance between the old and the new employees. Since there is mix of various cultures and mentalities, in brief there will be competitions between the team members. Hence as a leader, one should be able to channel the inevitable conflicts into effective learning of the team and the individuals working therein (Fisher, 2000 West, 2012). It is only indispensable to conclude that in whatever they do, their motivations ultimately spring from their belief system and religious conditioning, more than from mere individual psychological impulses. Islam totally discourages individual and self-sufficing thinking, and nurtures complete submission to its dogma in its followers. Though middle-class and more liberal-minded people in Muslim countries and Muslims in the Western countries are not possible to come under its sway to any significant degree, people in economically backward regions are much more susceptible to fundamentalist indoctrination. The al-Quran promises paradise in the after life for martyrs in its cause and the cause of Islamic nations. The allure of abundant rewards in a future world stirs the passions of the young in these terrorist-breeding countries, and spurs them to drastic, violent and suicidal actions (Johnson, 2002). Paraphrasing Karl Marxs famous statement in The Communist Manifesto, we can say that these young people who get converted to the ways of terrorism have nothing to lose except their miserable lives, and literally everything to gain when they properly lose the one thing they have. This impressive lack of the most radical human instinct of survival, this positive embracing of death is what makes these terrorists so potentially deadly. The ferocity and fanticism of their faith makes them fearless and virtually unstoppable, thus causing desperation to the leading and soldiers of India, Israel, the USA and most other Western countries who are determined to uproot terrorismIslamic terrorism is here to stay. It is a deep-roote d problem. To combat it effectively, one has look beyond the military and intelligence arenas, and aim to address the problem through social change. It is a long-term strategy, of course, but in the long run only this is going to help. During the Renaissance in Europe we have seen how irrational and dogmatic religion loosens its hold on the

Consensual Relationships Agreements ( CRA) Case Study

Consensual bloods Agreements ( CRA) - Case Study ExampleIn this connection, the Consensual Relationship Agreement (CRA) between the working people and the employer is generally regarded as a written contract in which the working people belonging to an organization guard to follow various policies relating to workplace that are established by the employer. The written transcription also states that the working people agree to discard certain attitudes or behaviors that might offend others in the working place. In this particular agreement, the employees or the staffs also agree to behave professionally and not to permit the relationship to bail their work performances. Through this particular relationship agreement, the working people of a particular organization also promise to report any sort of harassments that might prevail in the working place to the higher authority of the organization (Appleby, 2007).Along with the need of executing consensual agreements in the workplace, t here also d nearly certain different reasons which might possess negative impact for the employees with the implementation of Consensus Relationship Agreements (CRA) in any organization. A Natural and Privatized life Essay Example for Free

A Natural and Privatized life EssayHaruki Murakami, a Japanese writer of short story, The Year of Spaghetti. The personation of Murakamis stories with sharpen-of-view narratives provides certain distinctiveness to the characters, depending on how the dialogue is conveyed. The abstract things the narrator says and does provide the idea of human isolation with little feelings of fear. Although the story has no univocal plot, it grabs hold of conflicting emotions between fear and l angiotensin converting enzymeliness. The unnamed virtuoso in The Year of Spaghetti, illustrates the meaning of bleakness through naturalization and privatization. According to the Article, Murakami Haruki and the Naturalization of Modernity, Privatization is the handle that stimulates naturalization possible. (Cassegard 87) The first paragraph of Harukis story, The Year of Spaghetti, already shows how completely and private his life it. He says, I cooked spaghetti to live, and lived to cook spaghe tti. (pg. 178)It already seems as if his oral sex is made up for the rest of his life. That he has found his lifes calling to cook spaghetti every day and every night. That is what is natural to him. Naturalization means, that one has grown usaged to an environment that was once shocking. (Cassegard 83) Nothing truly phases him, however, he could non lease reached naturalization without having privatization occur first. Privatization is The process whereby individuals become used to solitude, orto be more precisetheir instinctual needs and fundamental impulses become channeled in such a way that their gratification is made less dependent on relations to different pile. The term does not imply that human interaction decreases, but stands for the subjective process whereby such interactions become less important as sources of gratification for individuals. (Cassegard 87)This explains how the jockstrap in this story can be conveyed as someone who is lonely, hurt, and avoiding t he rest of the world, but could actually just be content with life. Privatization explains that the interactions with other people are not necessarily something he is bad at or is avoiding, butjust has less interest in it.The story indeed goes on to how the protagonists phone rang and how he could barely even recognize the fact that someone was calling him. This was due to the fact that he does not call nor get calls regularly. This is a shock to the protagonist because he was not expecting anyone to call or talk to him. As he answered the phone it was his friends ex girlfriend and by the sound of her voice he already knew she needed some kind of help. He then says to himself, whatever trouble was brew I knew I didnt want to get involved. (Murakami 180) Before even knowing what the girls problem was he already knew he did not want any procedure of it. This is part of his privatized life.According to Cassegard, Their peace of mind is paid for by loneliness. (pg. 87) Cassegard is t rying to say that Murakamis protagonist likes being alone and therefore, knows, getting involved in any type of way with this girl or anyone else for that matter will interfere with him being alone. He is so use to his perfunctory life of buying different types of spaghetti every week, cooking it in his, huge aluminum cooking pot, big enough to bathe a German shepard in. (Murakami 178), then eating it all by himself. Perhaps the German shepard is alike a symbol of loneliness because this is all he did in 1971. He did it everyday and that is what he sees as normal. He kept his life privatized like this and that is why nothing is a shock to him, because it is natural to him.The protagonists tone in the story sounds content with subtle undertones of fear. It is like the spaghetti has some type of deeper meaning in accordance to his loneliness. When explaining how spaghetti is cooked a specific type of way he also mentions more than once how he must eat it alone. He even says he expec ts to be alone, and him subconsciously thinking people are at his entre proves how lonely he really is. The protagonist says Every time I sat down to a plate of spaghetti- especially on a wet afternoon- I had the distinct feeling that somebody was about to knock on my door. The person who I imagined was about to visit me was different each time. Sometimes it was a stranger, sometimes someone I knew. Once, it was a girl with slim legs whom Id dated in high school, and once it was myself, from a few days back, come to pay a visit. Another time, it was none other than William Holden, with Jennifer Jones on his arm. (Murakami 179)Although he may be content and satisfied with being alone, you can motionless tell how lonely he really is by his actions. Whenever, he eats spaghetti alone he imagines people coming to visit. He especially imagines people up when it is a rainy day. The rain symbolizes the mood of sadness and loneliness, therefore, especially on rainy days he would doze off. The protagonist in the story shows his loneliness because he has to daydream of random people that are visiting him but do not actually come inside.According to Cassegard, Few things are as striking in the protagonists of Murakami as their loneliness, even when they are with other people. (p. 83) Cassegard is saying that Murakamis protagonists are always perceived to be lonely even when interacting with others. For example, when the protagonist in The Year of Spaghetti is talking to the girl on the phone, he makes up a lie so that he can hang up with her because he does not want to speak or help her with her problem of needing to contact her ex boyfriend, the protagonists friend because he owes her a sum of money. He is not happy to have a phone call because he likes to be alone, so therefore, he lies about cooking spaghetti just to cut the communion off. After he lies he thinks to himself, I lied. I had no idea why I said that. But that lie was already a part of me- so much so th at, at that moment at least, it didnt feel like a lie at all. (Murakami 181) That line can make us idealize the fact that he has been cooking spaghetti for the purpose of a lie that has turned true. Him cooking spaghetti symbolizes his way of privatization. Eating spaghetti provides allusion to the idea of a mingled relationship that he is avoiding with anyone, especially the girl he was speaking on the phone to. His constant rejection to the world has lead him imagining a pot with water, on his stove, and an speculative match. (Murakami) This collectively provides the constant isolated relationship between him and his world.Murakami is a different kind of Japanese writer. He adapted his writing style from the Western side. DiConsiglo says, suppuration up, he dreamed of America. He read American detective novels, and listened to American musicon the radio. Even the defining moment in his life was understandably American. At age 29, while watching a baseball game, he suddenly rea lized he wanted to be a writer. (pg. 1) Murakami then says, writing in Japan for Japanese people is in a particular style, very stiff. If you are a Japanese novelist you have to write that way, Murakami has said. But I am different in my style. I guess Im seeking a new style for Japanese readership, and I think I have gained ground. Things are changing now. (DiConsiglio) Murakami was always teased for the way he writes. He was a disgrace to the older Japanese people because of the way he wrote. Japanese people would tease Americans and call them names like batakusai, which literally means, stinking of butter. (DiConsiglio 1) Murakami has been different from everyone else as he group up because of his interests and that is possibly why his characters in the stories he writes are so lonely, privatized, but also natural. His characters in the stories never seem to be shocked by anything because they accept everything as they are. They do not have any desire to figure out or question wh y certain things are the way they are. The characters just exist neither happy nor sad. And that is how the protagonist in Murakamis story The Year of Spaghetti is like. His character shows not much emotion to anything else except his love for spaghetti and his few day dreams of random imaginary people. That is really lonely but does not seem to shock the protagonist nor phase him, because as said, that is what is natural to him. (DiConsiglio)In conclusion, the point of view narration has emphasized the point that gives his stories uniqueness and relatable aesthetic. Its tone helps a reader to understand the author and protagonists ideas of privatization from the world that became natural to him. It is only then the symbolism of spaghetti provides a greater and deeper meaning to why the protagonist acts in the certain way that he does- a privatized and natural life.Works CitedCassegard, Carl.
